چکیده
For the Linac Coherent Light Source II (LCLS-II) project at SLAC, a 1.3 GHz superconducting rf (SRF) linac is being constructed that will generate 4 GeV electron bunches high repetition rate to drive x-ray free lasers. The LCLS-II source, which comprises first three meters of injector, includes two normal-conducting, continuous-wave cavities: one-cell, 185.7 MHz gun and two-cell, buncher. It also load-lock system allows photocathodes be changed under vacuum. components in this beam-line section were designed built by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory based on experience from their advanced photoinjector experiment program. In combination with SLAC UV laser system, source produce beam rates up 1 average currents $30\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{A}$ initially. was installed mid-2018, well advance SRF linac, now nearing completion. commissioned over two-year period, paper presents results including dark current characterization.

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) will be the world’s first free-electron laser at Ångström wavelengths (XFEL). It will be the first high brightness hard x-ray source with full transverse coherence. Its average brightness will exceed that of the brightest existing x-ray sources by a factor of 100 and its peak brightness will exceed them by a factor of ten billion. Its ultra-fast pulse stru...
متن کاملLinac Coherent Light Source Electron Beam Collimation∗
This paper describes the design and simulation of the electron beam collimation system in the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Dark current is expected from the gun and some of the accelerating cavities. Particle tracking of the expected dark current through the entire LCLS linac, from gun through FEL undulator, is used to estimate final particle extent in the undulator as well as expected b...

The Linac Coherent Light Source at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (operated by Stanford University for the US Department of Energy) is the world’s first hard X-ray Free Electron Laser machine. It uses high energy electrons delivered by a linac to create ultrafast and brilliant X-ray pulses that can be used as a ‘highspeed’ camera to obtain images of atoms and molecules. LCLS is a pion...
متن کاملThe Linac Coherent Light Source
The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory was the first hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) to operate as a user facility. After five years of operation, LCLS is now a mature FEL user facility. Our personal views about opportunities and challenges inherent to these unique light sources are discussed.
